Rooted in traditions of "making do" long embedded in Appalachian and rural Kentucky culture, this exhibition reminds us sustainability, while forward-thinking, is also our heritage.

KGAC, in partnership with the Kentucky Craft History and Education Association (KCHEA), commemorate America 250 by honoring the theme "Power of Place." The Guild returns to our roots and we're taking Appalachian Craft on the road! Our story began aboard the "Guild Train" - a cultural caravan of demonstrations and exhibitions from town to town, connecting communities through artistry, tradition, and cultural pride. From Function to Heritage explores how craft in Kentucky and Appalachia has moved from necessity to artistry while still carrying forward the same values that built the guild 65 years ago: skill, stewardship, community, and cultural pride. This traveling exhibit is made possible by the Kentucky Artis Council (KAC) and Kentucky Historical Society's America 250 initiative in exploring our shared history through art and connection to place.
